Hobby progress - March complete

I managed to finish off my librarian terminator with a rush paint job, 3 hours of late night painting from a blue basecoat followed up by another hour of washes.

A finecast model with plenty of faults, many of which others have complained about and pointed out. It was a nice model to paint except for those faults and the fact I assembled it before hand, that was my biggest mistake.

This post is a bit out of order, I thought I had published it last month but obviously never hit the publish button.

Hobby Progress - A dent in April

I've dusted off the airbrush compressor and made a temporary space to start putting a basecoat on my hobby progress units. I've also made a move over to dedicated airbrush paints so I don't have to thin out GW or mix in other colours to make a blue I like, I never remember recipies and I'm dire at writing them down. Two paints I settled on where Vallejo's Blue Angels and P3's Blue Exile. I had to thin the P3 a bit to make it suitable but I liked the colour, it reminded me of the old Crimson Fist artwork.

I selected two models that where the same, a terminator from Dark Vengance and two plasma Dev's from a past ebay purchase. Left is Blue Angels, right is Blue Exile.

I liked both so I asked the Google+ warhammer community and on the hobby progress thread as to which one everyone prefered and the Vallejo colour has come out in front. I gathered up my forces last night and set to spraying.

A good bit has been done, I've left the assualt marines as they need more work to fix broken hands and weapons, perhaps in the next hobby progress phase :)

Hobby progress Feburary and March

Last months entry has gone well, a basic tabletop standard Ironclad Dread.

There's plenty on this model I'd like to do again but considering it's been a year or more since I assembled it and nearly that long since I painted anything so I'm happy with a basic table top standard. Once I get the rest of the army painted I may revisit this model.

I've moved on to a Terminator Librarian and I was about half way when I got impatient with the painting method I was using and added a bit more pigment for the blue armour and that ruined the paint job. I thought about it and just decided to strip it back to the resin and start over again but with a shortcut, I reached for the army painter blue spray. It didn't work out well for me, the can was old and it gave me a nice lumpy texture on the model, time to strip again and start over... again. It's one model so it's not much of a set back but I was hoping to move on to devastators early.

The Independent Characters - Hobby progess Challenge

So I've entered the IC Hobby Progress Challenge to make some progress and provide some motivation.

My entry - http://www.theindependentcharacters.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6409

More info on the challenge can be found here - http://www.theindependentcharacters.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=77

The challenge is in two halves, but entirely optional, the first being a 1000 points zone mortalis force. This places some restrictions on the force that can be formed, most of them will be infantry as tanks, flyers and other vehicles won't fit in to the tight spaces of ZM. The only exception would be walkers like dreads. I've gone for a low model count force to maximise the result I'll get at the end, I'll have a semi-viable force and more importantly I'll have completed units. My main focus is hobby progress and currently the only way I can progress is by stealing 15 minutes every couple of days to work on some small aspect of a unit. Eyes one day, bolters the next, then the purity seal wax and the paper the next day. It's slow going but better than no progress. As someone on the IC forum said

Have brush, have paint, have water, go!

The last few months have been busy but there has been progress! On terminators, I've got a good bit of work done on my Thunderhammer and Storm Shield unit. I still have some decisions to make on the colour pattern for the shield and some minor choices for the hammers. That shouldn't take too long and I'll have them in the queue for basing fairly soon. More photos in the next post!
